No fewer than 10 suspects have been apprehended by the police in Lagos over alleged vandalization of electricity cables.
This happened, as the command said it has launched manhunt on buyers of stolen cables across the state.
The suspects were identified as Mohammed Yusuf 18 years , Mohammed Babakur 30 years, Abu Zenou 25 years, Abdullahi Abba 37 years, Awam Abubakar 22 years, Nurudeen Ogunseye 46 years, Azeez Olayinka 20 years,Abdulrahman Momoh 24 years, Mohammed Kabiru ,27 years and Yusuf Mustapha 23 years.
The Lagos Commissioner of Police Edgal Imohimi while confirming the arrest, said the suspects were arrested while digging and cutting the electricity cable that supplies street light around White sand area, Orile Iganmu Lagos.
He disclosed that they were apprehended by operatives of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad attached to Ijora Base, who swiftly raced to the scene following credible information on 15th January 2019 at about 8.00pm.
Edgal added that rolls the vandalised electricity cable, Knife and a hack saw were recovered from the suspects.
According to him, the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
His words, ” On the 15/01/2019, at about 0200hrs, information was received from a credible source that some vandals were sighted digging and cutting electricity cable that supplies street light around White sand area, Orile Iganmu Lagos.
Based on the information, FSARS Operatives attached to Ijora Badia Base, swiftly mobilized to the scene and arrested the following suspects:
i) Mohammed Yusuf ‘m’ 18 years
ii) Mohammed Babakur ‘m’ 30 years
iii) Abu Zenou ‘m’ 25 years
iv) Abdullahi Abba ‘m’ 37 years
v) Awam Abubakar ‘m’ 22 years
vi) Nurudeen Ogunseye ‘m’ 46 years
vii) Azeez Olayinka ‘m’ 20 years
viii) Abdulrahman Momoh ‘m’ 24 years
ix) Mohammed Kabiru ‘m’ 27 years
x) Yusuf Mustapha ‘m’ 23 years
Exhibits recovered from the suspects are
i) Electricity cable
ii) Knife and a hack saw
Suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner has warned sellers of vandalised cables to either leave the state or risk the wrath of the police.
He said the command has launched a manhunt and already closing up on them.
” Let me warn those that sell stolen cables that we are narrowing on them, those that buy stolen cables you better park and leave Lagos because we are closing on you”, the police boss warned.
