The Kaduna State Government has said that it has undertaken 57 projects in Ikara Local Government Area of the state to tackle infrastructure deficit in the area.
According to the government, the projects are in the areas of health, education, roads and water supply.
Ibrahim Sadiq, Chairman of the local council, who made the disclosure at a town hall meeting on Thursday in Ikara, said that the projects were awarded at the cost of over N3.23 billion.
The event was organised by the State Budget and Planning Commission in collaboration with the Ministry for Local Governments.
Sadiq said N254.9 million was spent on rehabilitation of classrooms in five schools, provision of toilet facilities in 16 schools, and drilling of 11 solar powered boreholes.
He added that four health centres were rehabilitated in the area and five others upgraded and equipped.
The chairman explained that N267.1 million was spent on health, including provision of hospital equipment, rehabilitation of labour ward and construction of staff quarters.
Sadiq also said that the state government has spent over N2.6 billion on the construction of three roads, reconstruction and emergency repair of others.
The Chairman disclosed that on its part, the local council has constructed 30 culverts, three in each of the 10 wards of the local government area.
He commended Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i for the intervention, including the empowerment of youths and women.
Speaking at the event, the Provost Collage of Education, Gidan Waya, Prof. Alexander Kure, said Gov. El-Rufai has taken education as a top priority.
Kure said for the first in Kaduna state, girls child education is now free, apart from schools renovation and recruitment of qualified teachers.
He therefore urged people of the state to assess “government policies in a matured manner not with emotion.”
The Secretary of Ikara Local Government, Lawal Faki, said El-Rufa’i “has performed very well in infrastructure, health and education in our villages,” and called for more support to the governor in the forthcoming election, for continuity.
