An Owerri based political pressure group with the name Imo People’s Movement Initiative (IPMI) has threatened to resist violently, any attempt by anybody, individual or group, to impose any candidate on the people of the state as the next governor.

This group’s reaction however, came up following the declaration, recently by the state governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, that he has endorsed his son in-law, and chief of staff, Mr. Uche Nwosu to take over from him, in 2019 as the state governor.

Rising form a crucial meeting in Owerri, the state capital over the weekend the group, which it’s membership is drawn from the three senatorial zones of the state, said that the state governor, Rochas Okorocha has no moral right to determine who takes over from him come 2019.

This group, which is made up of members of all existing political parties in the state, further resolved from the meeting that all it’s members would work for and support any person, who duely emerges as flag bearer or candidate, through a normal democratic process in any of the existing political parties.

According to the group, Imo state is bigger than any individual, family or group and cannot be converted to a family business by the state governor.

The leader of the group, chief Uju Madu, explained that the objective of the group, pointing out that it is not a political party but comprises people of different political backgrounds, with a single reason that the right thing must be done, come 2019.

He said that his group is insisting that getting a successor to incumbent governor of the state, must be a collective business of the people of the state and not an individual show.

The group therefore cautioned governor Rochas Okorocha to be mindful of the implications of what he is trying to do by choosing his son in-law and chief of staff Mr. Uche Nwosu.
