Nigeria youths have been urged to vote for only those who will protect and empower them to for sustainable development of the country.
This advise was given by the Zamfara State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi on Saturday while speaking at the 2018 annual conference of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Youth Association of Nigeria (ADYAN) Northern States Council held in Gusau.
Shinkafi said the current security crisis in the country was as a result of none empowerment of the youths by the government and therefore advised youths not allow themselves to be used as destruction agents by the politicians.
“Shine your eyes and be vigilant, don’t allow yourselves to be used to cause mayhem in order for a politician to win election. Their children are either abroad or somewhere enjoying themselves while they give you peanuts to destroy your future”, he said.
Shinkafi added that the youths constitute over 55 % of the country’s population which is an advantage for them to demand better from the government as no society can stand without the youths.
Also a renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Muhyideen Ajani Bello speaking on the theme, ‘2019 General elections: Youth empowerment and education as key to Nigeria’s future’ said the youths are the catalyst of development and must not allow themselves to become back benchers in the national polity.
He called on government to prioritize giving the youths education and empowerment to curb the level of crime in the country.
“If the youths are empowered it reduces their participation in crimes such as kidnapping, banditry, robbery and other crimes”, he said.
Earlier, the chairman of ADYAN Northern States Council, Dr Muhammad Bashir Omipidan called on youths not to allow themselves to be used as thugs to cause mayhem and chaos in the country.
“As youth, we owe it a duty to use our voters card to vote in those that will guarantee our future, while using same to vote out those who constantly derive joy in mortgaging our future to better their own selfish desire”, he said.
ADYAN also support the recent clampdown on some traditional rulers found to be supporting banditry activities in Zamfara state.
Omipidan said no person should be allowed to go scot free for making the state unsafe to live in.
“It is sad that those who are supposed to protect their citizens are the ones killing them”, he said.
Highlights of the 2018 annual conference includes the General Meeting of the association, presentation of merit awards and fund raising for the development of the association and dinner
