Super Eagles celebrate scoring against Iceland
Former Super Eagles defender, Godwin Okpara, has predicted a bright future for the Super Eagles and that in not too a long time. According to him, the country will benefit from the services of young players being introduced by national team handler, Gernot Rohr to the team.
Okpara, disclosed to New Nigerian Sports in Lagos  that he is impressed with the rebuilding process being carried out by the Franco- German tactician; saying that though the players may not have exploded internationally but very soon Nigeria will gain from them.
” I want to say that I’ m impressed with what Gernot Rohr is doing in discovering these young players. Though these players are still young and have not exploded internationally, but they will soon be a force to be reckoned with both at the continental and World level ; began the former RC Strasbourg and Paris Saint Germain player.
” Rohr’ s decision to introduce young players like Golden Eaglets’ Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winning captain. Kelechi Nwakali, Isaac Success, Samuel Kalu, John Ogu and Chidozie Awaziem to the national team is a good development These players are full of energy and talents. They are players for the future and hopefully, they will come out good because they have the ability to succeed in a not too distant future” , explained the one time Obanta United player.
Okpara who was part of the Super Eagles squad to the 1998 FIFA World Cup as well as a member of the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations and 2000 Summer Olympic squad, expressed confidence that Nigeria will put up a good performance at the 2019 AFCON finals and also have a formidable team before the next World Cup.
” There is no doubt that Rohr has turned around the Super Eagles and now Nigerians are once more believing in the team. With what I’ ve  seen, we’ re going to have a formidable team at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations and even a more formidable one before the 2022 World Cup.
“All I want Nigerians and our football administrators to do is to keep on supporting the coaching crew for them to give us what we want”, he stressed.
On the performance of the various national teams this year, he described it as encouraging hoping that the coming year will be better.
” I’ m highly impressed with the performance of our national teams this  year and will give them high mark.
” When you look at the performance, you will discover that the Super Eagles qualified for next year’s AFCON finals with a game to spare after missing  the last two editions which calls for celebration and to cap it all, the Super Falcons won the Africa Women Cup of Nations a record 9 times and I believe these successes will propel them to do better next year”, concluded the former Standard Liege of Belgium reliable defender.
