Taraba Police Command on Tuesday paraded 23 suspects for various offences including three suspected killers of three police officers and two vigilantes in Bujum village, in Lau Local Government Area of the state on August 6, 2018.
Parading the suspects with 20 others for various offences ranging from rape, armed robbery, vandalism, dealers in human parts among others, the state Commissioner of Police, David Akinremi explained that the armed bandits carted away one AK47 rifle and a Bareta pistol from the officers.
Akiremi named the slained police officers as ASP Kilobas Iliya, SGT John Dogo and PC Joel Saleh along side two vigilantes who were ambushed and killed by a gang of armed bandits while responding to a distress call.
The suspected killers according to him were Adamu Bakari, Haruna Buba and Ali Musa.
“The suspects not only admitted their roles in the dastardly act but confirmed that about 20 of them were recruited by one Ahmadu Baka, Sarkin Fulani of Abare whom they said gave them arms with which they attacked the deceased under the guise that they were to help him fight some people who were coming to cart away his cattle,” he said.
He further noted that the AK47 rifle, the single Barretta rifle, a locally made pistol, cutlass and criminal charms were recovered from the suspects.
Akinremi, who urged the public to be vigilant and provide useful information to the police force said officers of the command were on the search for the remaining bandits and their sponsor.
