The Chairman, Traditional Rulers’ Council and the Paramount Ruler of Bakassi, His Royal Majesty, Etinyin, Etim Okon Edet, has called on Ndi Igbo living in Cross River Syate to seek for peace and unity amongst themselves.
He made the call in Calabar on Tuesday when the leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo paid him a courtesy call in his palace to officially intimate him of the 28th anniversary celebration of Nna Ndi Igbo in Cross River.
The call he said became necessary so that their landlord communities will not see them as a threat.
According to him, ” the Igbo right from history were known for their hard work as well as harmonious existence wherever they are.
“Cross River State, should therefore not be an exception. You must learn to live together as well as to tolerate, obey the tradition and culture of the host communities at all times,” he added
He commended the Nna Ndi Igbo, Sir Emmaneul Ezenweyi, for his leadership qualities over the years which had kept the Igbos together.
The chairman, however, assured that he will brief the state Governor, Senator Ben Ayade, whom he said would accept to attend the occasion.
Also, he said that the 18 local government Paramount Rulers shall be in attendance as a mark of honour to grace the occasion.
Speaking earlier, the President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Barr. Ugorji Nwabueze, lauded the chairman of the traditional rulers council for his fatherly approach in handling issues before him.
He, however, briefed His Royal Majesty of the forthcoming 28th anniversary of the Nna NdiIgbo slated in Calabar on November 24 and officially invited him as the Royal father of the day.
He declared ” the Nna Ndigbo is not here to disrespect or disregard the tradition of the owners of the land, but to act as a check and balance between the Igbos and our landlords”.
The highlight of the occasion was the solidarity visit of the Eze Ndigbo of Akwa Ibom, Eze Dr. C.Y.C Umeakuke.
