Flood: Death Toll Rises To Eleven As 20-year-old Drowns In Anambra

Governor Obiano

The death of twenty-year old Ifejika Umuiza, from Ogbetiti village in Odekpe community, Ogbaru, Anambra has brought the number of victims drowned by this year’s ravaging flood in the state to eleven.

Making the disclosure on Wednesday in Awka, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ogbaru, Arinzechukwu Awogu, said that fejika drowned in the receding flood that swept him off his feet into a nearby deep pond near their compound in Ochuche Umuodu, Ogbetiti Village in Odekpe Community.

He regretted the number of lives so far lost to flood in the area alone saying, “The total number of deaths in Ogbaru since the flood disaster hit the area had risen to eleven.

“Ifejika got drowned just a few metres away from his family house as the receding flood at the back of their home swept him deep into a nearby pond.”

The council boss said he, alongside other appointees of government, had already visited and commiserated with the family over the unfortunate loss.
