Cross River: APC Condemns Renewed Usumuyong/Ediba Killings, Calls For Govt’s Intervention

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, has condemned in strong terms the destruction of lives and properties following renewed clashes between the Usumutong and Ediba communities in Abi Local Government Area of the state.
The party said  “available reports reaching it  has it that lives have been lost in several numbers,some persons have been taken hostage while properties worth millions of  aira have also been destroyed in the renewed violence”.
A statement by the State Publicity Secretary of the party,Mr. Bassey Ita, quoted the State Chairman of the party,Dr.Matthew Achigbe as saying that “the situation now presents an opportunity for those in statecraft to demonstrate leadership” and therefore urged the state government to urgently intervene with a view to restoring peace and nomalcy between the two communities.
It  further condemned the killings stating that “nothing in human existence is too serious or important to trigger such henous situation where two sister communities will main,kill and destroy in such magnitude”.
It argued that “much as people could contemplate violence,they could resort to dialogue to settle contending issues” adding that “violence is often  contemplated by those who are bereft of ideas and who have a penchant for hate and violence”.
The APC also called on other stake holders in statecraft including security agencies to rise to the occasion of ending further bloodletting in the area.
