Osun 2018: Former Minister Cautions INEC Against Electoral Fraud

A former Minister of Transport and Aviation, Chief Ebenezer Babatope has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), not to have a repeat of what transpired during the Governorship election in Ekiti state on September 22, 2018 in Osun state.

Speaking with journalists in  Ilesa, Chief Babatope urged INEC to maintain their position as unbiased umpire by allowing people’s verdict in voting for the Governorship candidate of their choice to prevail.
The former Minister, who was also the Director of organisation of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) led by the late Nationalist, Papa Obafemi Awolowo said, a situation where people’s choice is not allowed to prevail will put the peaceful coexistence and atmosphere in the country in disarray.
The former Hon. Minister advised INEC not to allow itself to be used to destroy democracy in Nigeria but rather base their action on constitutional and Democratic process in electoral matters.
Chief Babatope, the PDP Chieftain warned that if INEC should allow itself to be used to truncate democracy in Nigeria, “those involved will regret until their dieing days”.
The governorship candidate of PDP in Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke, he said, has assured the people of Nigeria and INEC that the PDP will cooperate with all those who worn free and fair election in the country.
The good people of Osun state, Chief Babatope noted will resist attempt by any one to tamper with their democratic wishes.
His words, ” the people of Osun state will not accept any electoral announcement that is based on fraud and other electoral malpractices “.
