Mrs Obiano Empowers 990 Persons In Anambra

The wife of Anambra State Governor, Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano in her ongoing empowerment tour of the 21 local government areas of the state has empowered 990 indigent widows, women, the physically challenged and children of Ihiala and Ekwusigo local government area of the state. 

The governor’s wife who defied the torrential rains to meet the needs of the less privileged in the state in her speech, said that the purpose of the empowerment was to reach out and ensure that every citizen of the state was accorded a sense of belonging.

She reaffirmed her commitment towards trading and empowering women, widows and youth so that they could be meaningfully engaged and productive to the society.

The 990 beneficiaries were made up of forty persons selected from 14 communities in Ihiala which came up to 770 persons and 220 persons from the four communities in Ekwusigo Local Areas respectively.

Items shared at the event included bags containing maths set and exercise books for children, treated mosquito nets, and stipends to ameliorate their plights.

Mrs. Obiano who runs a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), known as CAFE to reach out to the needy, urged the beneficiaries to register with her NGO, to be trained in vocations like tailoring, bakery and confectionery, beauty therapy and computer/telephone repairs etc.

She explained that on completion of the training, the graduands are provided with necessary equipment and funds to start up their chosen enterprise, adding that students who have passed the requirements for higher institution can also be part of the programme.
