The Arewa Solidarity Front (ASF) has condemned in strong terms “the unprovoked” gunmen attack on the residence of Senator Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday evening.

The group, in a statement signed by its leader, Comrade Haruna Abdullahi Maikano and made available to newsmen said the attack was unwarranted and intolerable.

Akpabio’s residence in Ukanna, Essien Udim LGA of Akwa Ibom State was attacked by unknown gunmen at about 7.30pm on Tuesday, even as they robbed innocent passersby in the process.

ASF said the Gestapo style, which disturbed the peace of the community could be politically-motivated and “it’s a smear on the image of the good people of Ukanna in particular and Ussien Udim LGA in general.”

The group also supported the stand of Akwa Ibom State APC Chairman, who openly condemned the attack.

ASF, in the statement, called on security agents to fish out the attackers and ensure they are prosecuted, to serve as a deterrence to others with similar evil intentions”.

The group then urged Senator Akpabio “not to be distracted by sponsored terror gangs, in his contributions to the deepening of democracy.”
