Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Monday tasked Nigerians to pray for a peaceful and credible general election in and across the country in 2019.
The governor who made the call in his Eid El Kabir message issued by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Bolaji Tunji also urged Nigerian pilgrims to the holy land to pray for sustained peace in the country and the wellbeing of its leaders at all levels.
Governor Ajimobi stressed that there is the need for fervent prayers for peace and stability to continue to reign in the country as the general elections are fast approaching as well as for the safe return of the pilgrims to the Holy Land as they proceed to Mount Arafat for the crucial hajj rites, climaxing with throwing of pebbles, on Tuesday.
“We should pray for the safe return of those on holy pilgrimage to Mecca, as well as for other Muslims from every part of the world to return home in good health. Those proceeding to Arafat today (Monday) should use the opportunity to pray for sustained peace, progress and economic advancement of our dear country. Most importantly, pray for a peaceful and crisis-free 2019 general election.” he said.
Congratulating Muslims on the occasion of this year’s Eid al-Adha festival, which he said was being celebrated in an atmosphere of peace and cohesion of the country, Governor Ajimobi lauded the people of Oyo state for their understanding and continued support for his administration in its quest to redefine governance and enhance its socio-economic fortunes.
“I want to assure the citizenry that this administration will continue to introduce people-friendly policies to enhance the prosperity of the populace and protect lives and property.Let me also enjoin our Muslim brothers and sisters to remember those in the Holy Land in their prayers as they proceed to Mount Arafat today (Monday) to have a peaceful and accident-free exercise.”
The governor then charged the people of Oyo State to continue to exhibit love towards their fellow human beings and re-dedicate yourselves to the service of Almighty Allah and humanity, as demonstrated by Prophet Muhammed (SAW) during his earthly sojourn.”
He however appealed to ” motorists and travellers to ensure that their vehicles were in good conditions and to observe basic traffic rules in order to avert carnage on the roads during the holidays.”
