To safeguard lives and properties and ensure trouble free Eid el Kabir celebrations across Niger state, the Police in the state said it has deployed 2030 personnel to parts of the state on sentinel, patrol and vigil as Muslims across the state join their counterparts across the country to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The Police command said in a statement issued in Minna that the personel dispatched include plain cloth, regular combatants, anti riot Police men, anti bomb unit and anti terrorists squad of the Police.
A statement from the spokesman for the Police command, Mohammed Dan Inna Abubakar said the command was poised to ensure law and order throughout the festive period.
The Command’s image maker, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, enjoined Muslim worshipers to be vigilant as they pray at the various Eid prayers grounds even as he urged them to cooperate with security personnel assigned to places of worship and other strategic areas across the state.
He cautioned against acts of lawlessness and fermenting trouble saying the Police would not spare anyone found wanting.
As at Monday, markets in Minna, Maitumbi, Bosso, Paiko and environs were filled with people making last minutes purchases ahead of the Eid el Kabir celebrations.
Rams and other livestock sellers such as cows, goats, birds such as chickens, Turkeys and the likes were had spilled out of the main central markets in Minna, the state capital to major roads where they set up sales outlets.
Traffic was unusually high as there were increase in motorists plying the various roads in the town.
A market survey at the Minna central market confirmed that prices of goods especially vegetables, food stuff and other items had remained generally stable as against what was the situation during the last Ramadan fast period which witnessed a sudden rise in the prices of foodstuff and other essential goods.
