Against all odds and unfolding politicking in Akwa Ibom State, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has assured Governor Udom Emmanuel that he and other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senators in the national assembly are solidly behind him.
Saraki who led a delegation of Senators on a solidarity visit to Governor Emmanuel at Government House, Uyo on Friday said he was happy to know that Akwa Ibom people have given their strong support behind the Governor to arise above and re-elected for second term in office.
The Senate President described the Governor as someone whose leadership capacity and good works in Akwa Ibom state have made him stood out among governors in the country.
His words, “We are with you because the years you have served as a Governor, we know your worth and capacity. You have shown your leadership skills because it is not easy to rise above and I believe as a leader despite the provocations, you have done a lot of good works here and we don’t want you to be distracted.
“I am happy for you, your Excellency because on our arrival at the airport, what I have seen and the warm reception accorded us showed that Akwa Ibom people are saying in a very strong voice that they are behind you. Events will unfold and they will continue to show love because you meant well for the people. We are here to assure that we are with you. We will come back to support you to give you a worthy second term.”
Senator Saraki thanked the people of the state for a rousing welcome accorded them to the state, and promised that PDP would continue to deliver on its core mandate of good governance to all.
Responding, Governor Udom Emmanuel told Senator Saraki that Akwa Ibom people have always watched with keen interest the way he (Saraki) handles the legislative matters at the national assembly to ensure development in the country.
Governor Emmanuel noted that his resilience in protecting Nigeria project was a clear case of integrity and character, adding that he has fought a good fight to guarantee progress both in the national assembly and Nigeria as a country.
The Governor described Senator Saraki’s defection from All Progressives Congress to PDP as a “home coming and welcome development”.
He assured the visiting senators that inspite of the recent event where the former Governor of the state and former senator minority leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio decamped from the Party to APC, PDP is 98 percent intact in the state.
He thanked him and other senators for the solidarity visit, assuring that we would reciprocate the love.
In accompanied with the Senate President were Senators representing FCT, Kogi West, Kogi Central, Bauchi and Akwa Ibom North East among others.
