Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai of Kaduna State on Wednesday presented the 2019 Draft Budget Estimate of N155.9bn to Kaduna State House of Assembly.
The Governor explained that the proposed budget in the ratio of 40:60 recurrent to capital in line with the government’s agenda of spending more in serving the people than in running government.
El-Rufal said that they have made investments on healthcare, education, agriculture and rural electrification and priority of the budget is to complete all 2018 projects and pay all contractors that have worked.
He said the budget of continuity proposes spending of N155.9bn constituting 62.3bn recurrent and 93.5bn capital spending, assuring the House that the proposed budget is to achieved positive goals of the state.
According to the Governor, they are committed towards ensuring that children in the state embark on quality education including the children of the poor to have access to education, as they would continue to invest in education as it is their first priority to educate the children of the poor in the state.
El-Rufai said the health sector is an important issue in their agenda that is why they have recruited health workers, equipped them with necessary facilities in an effort to restore good health in the state.
“The budget is consistent with the agenda of Kaduna State Government to spend more on the people than spending more in running the government,” he said.
The budget gives priority to the social sector with education taking the lion share of 31.7bn while works, housing and transport take 27.8bn and health 17.6bn.
In response, the Speaker Kaduna State House of Assembly Honourable Aminu Abdullahi Shagali said the 2019 budget marks another positive increase as they are proud of Kaduna State towards its sustainable place in Nigeria.
He said the budget found is to be a sustainable one, a budget of the people as he assured that quick work on the budget will commence immediately and this will advanced Kaduna State.
Meanwhile, Kaduna State House of Assembly nominated and swore-in Honourable Shehu Goro Shadalafiya as the New Deputy Speaker, after the seat of Honourable John Audu Kwaturu was declared vacant after decamping to PDP.
Shadalafiya is the member representing Kagarko Local Government Area. He has assumed his new role immediately after taking oath of office.
