Chairman of the Planning Committee for the 90th birthday of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji. Professor Taoheed Adedoja on Tuesday disclosed that all is now set for the celebrations of the Oba Adetunji’s birthday kicking off on Sunday, August 19
Professor Adedoja said this while addressing a press conference with other members of the Committee at the Olubadan palace, Popoyemoja, in Ibadan.
The Planning Committee Chairman declared that no fewer than 9,300 dignitaries including 120 traditional rulers from different parts of the country have signified their interest to attend the activities lined up to celebrate the 90th birthday of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji.
According to Professor Adedoja,the dignitaries also included former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dr. Wale Babalakin among others
Highlighting some of the activities slated for the celebration, Professor Adedoja hinted that the Oba Adetunji’s 90th birthday celebration will start with an interdenominational christian and Islamic services, medical outreach, Life Tribute day, film show, and distribution of food items to the needy by the monarch.
He listed other activities as a royal walk, public lecture, visit to orphanages and charity hones, conferment of honorary chieftaincy titles to deserving persons with a grand birthday reception to be held International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
Professor Adedoja pointed out that the goodwill and image of Oba Adetunji made it possible for his committee to within three weeks recorded major achievement so much in terms of planning,adding that beyond the number of invitations sent out, thousands of individuals from different parts of the country and beyond on daily basis keep expressing interest to participate, felicitate with and honour the revered monarch.
Commenting on the medical outreach as part of the a week long activities, Professor Adedoja said about 250 medical personnel have agreed to give free medical attention to indigenes in 50 various centres across the ancient city, noting that each centre is to be manned by expert medical processionals and that test would be conducted in the areas of blood pressure, blood glucose, weight and general medical counselling for the indigenes and people in need of medical attention.
Also, the Planning Committee Chairman added that an Ibadan indigene from the University of Texas, Austin Texas, United States of America, Professor Toyin Falola would deliver a public lecture entitled “Isese, Asa Ati Esin: Cultural Bridges to our development and modalities” at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
Professor Adedoja said Governor Abiola Ajimobi who is the Are of Ibadanland on his part is giving full moral and financial support to the celebration of Oba Adetunji’s 90th birthday in his capacities as the governor of the state, a son to the Olubadan, a true Ibadan son
