Almakura Lauds Nasarawa /Cuba Relations, Woos Other Countries

Governor Tanko Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa State has lauded the relationship between the Government of Nasarawa State and the nation of Cuba, stating that there were many economic benefits that would be mutually beneficial with the partnerships between them.

Speaking at dinner organized for the delegation at the Nigerian embassy in Cuba, following days of visits, meetings, presentations and signing of agreements, Governor Almakura expressed appreciation to the Government of Cuba for arranging, packaging the visit and chaperoning the Nasarawa State delegation during their stay in Cuba.

The Dinner which was hosted by the Nigerian Ambassador to Cuba had in attendance the Ambassadors of Namibia , Ghana, Niger, Mali, Libya, officials of Ministries of Agriculture, Health Commerce , Ministers and Heads of Department of Nigerian Embassy in Cuba as well as the visiting Nasarawa state Delegation .

Gov. Almakura described the visit as another homecoming as people from Africa /Nigeria also make up the population of Cuba, stating that they were amazed at the similarities of cultures between Cuba and Nigeria.

He explained that Cuban Embassy in Nigeria and the Nasarawa state Government  were close thereby warranting frequent visits between them; recalling the visit to condole the embassy and the entire people of Cuba over the death of Fidel Castro.

The Governor said Nasarawa state occupies a vantage position in the country due to its closeness to the Federal Capital and accessibility to the presidency, thereby bringing goodwill messages from the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said the President was aware of his trip which is of value addition for Nasarawa State and Nigeria to explore the potential in Cuba especially in the areas of Health, Agriculture and Education.

Governor Almakura said Cuba had achieved excellence in medicine especially animal husbandry , healthcare and education, which he said the commitments and arrangements made would take off immediately they returned.

“Following the signing of agreements with various ministries and departments and companies, by the time we get back they would be ready for the collaborations to take off immediately”.

Gov. Almakura disclosed that they were looking forward to seeing a lot of Cubans in Nigeria , who would come to help implement some of the agreements.

He called on the Ambassadors present to consider encouraging any of their Governments or companies that may wish to come to Nasarawa State to consider the solid minerals sector for them to explore or the rich agricultural sector available in the state; assuring them of friendly and conducive atmosphere for collaboration and partnership.
