The National Assembly will not reconvene on Tuesday, August 14, which is contrary to the public expectation.
The House of Representatives spokesman, Abdulrazak Namdas, made this known on Monday, August 13.
Namdas noted that the House is yet to decide on a reconvening date.
The deputy speaker of the House, Yussuff Lasun, recently announced that the National Assembly would reconvene on Tuesday to consider the budget for the 2019 polls and other pending issues forwarded to lawmakers by President Buhari in July.
Some members of the National Assembly said they were not sure whether the two chambers would reconvene Tuesday, August 14, to consider the 2019 budget of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Senate President Bukola Saraki has not made any official announcement as regards reconvening of the National Assembly.
Many senators and House members, who were set to go on summer holiday and perform the Hajj rites, remained in Abuja because there is no word from the National Assembly’s leadership.
This budget is important but there is anxiety everywhere on the security implications of recalling members.
“From the look of things, our leaders are looking at all options on how to make the ratification of the budget easier.”
A principal officer of the House, who spoke in confidence, said:“We have not been told when the National Assembly will reconvene to consider the poll budget.
