The Chairman Kaduna State Fityanul Islam Alhaji Rabi’u Abdullahi has advised government to come in and assist the Almajiri system of education to address the issue of begging amongst them.
He gave the advise in an interview with Journalists in Zaria, stressing that majority of the beggars on our major roads were not Almajiris, but are parading themselves through dressing like the real Almajiris.
According to him, he personally made some investigations by interacting with some Almajiris at filling stations and motor parks but suprisingly, they don’t know the name of the school they belong or even their Malams.
Alh. Rabi’u said if goverment can create vocational centers for the Almajiris to learn trades that will help them, it will stop them from going around begging people in the name of Almajiri.
The chairman also advised the Malams to take sizeable number of children, to be able to track their movement and whom they are relating with.
He further said that already at the state level, they have constituted some committee’s in efforts to address the issue of Almajiris to let the public know that they are not neglected children as claimed by some people.
