As the struggle to takeover Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, in 2019 continues, another member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shuaibu ldris Mikati on Wednesday, submitted his letter of intent to the party, indicating his intention to pick the party’s gubernatorial ticket.
The PDP, Secretariat in the last few weeks has witnessed a bee hive of activities with several members of the party, including the immediate past governor, Dr. Ramalan Yero, declaring their intention to contest the party’s primary for 2019 governorship.
Mikati, it would be recalled, started his sojourn to the Kaduna State Government house, since 2007 and 2011 but could not get his party’s ticket, after losing the primaries.
In his letter to the party, Mikati said, “the 2019 general elections are largely being contested on the premise of integrity. I happen to have come from the private sector with no issues attached to my name. Indeed, I was awarded a medal on integrity recently by the African Leadership Magazine in Accra, Ghana.
“I write to inform you of my decision after careful review of the current situation in our dear state and our great party as well as wide consultation, to contest for the position of Governor of Kaduna State under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party.”
“I Believe strongly in the axiom that says ‘patience pays’ thus since then I have remained a faithful, loyal and humble member of the party. Giving my token contributions to the development and growth of the party at local, staté and national levels. My contributions have been wide and numerous over the years.
He added that, “i have painstakingly studied our state, the issues of governance and the challenges before our great party before this decision. Indeed, I have developed a Blue Print; tagged “WIPER” which I believe would help in transforming our dear state if implemented. Attached are 50 copies
document for your study and distribution.”
He cautioned the party to avoid a situation where people without ideas are allowed to take the reigns of power that has drawn Africa backwards, saying, “we in PDP must avoid this statement: ‘The tragedy with Africa is that those with ideas are not in power, that those in power have no ideas. When the people have a chance, they still vote those with no ideas’ Patrice Lumumba.
“With track records of hard work, dedication and devotion to duty, the reasonable level of education, experience and exposure as well as mass appeal to a broad spectrum of voters and leaders alike, I feel confident that if opportune with the ticket of our party, together we shall regain our position in Kaduna state with very little effort.” Mikati, noted
