Buhari’s N200bn Proposal For 2019 Polls Not Too Much – Guru Maharaji

INEC Chairman

By; BAYO AKAMO, Ibadan

Founder of One Love Family, Satguru Maharaji on Friday said that the N242 billion  proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari to fund the 2019 general elections was not too much to fund  elections in Nigeria.

Also, he predicted that  many would be surprised that the general elections would be free, fair and successful, saying, those making negative comments on the forthcoming elections should have a change of mind.

Sat Maharaji stated this in Ibadan while addressing newsmen  on the state of the nation at a press conference held at the Sat Guru Maharaji village.

According to him, no amount of money was too big to ensure free, fair and acceptable elections in a country like Nigeria that is blessed with both many untapped natural and human resources.

He maintained that there was no basis for Nigeria as the giant of Africa to be bothered about how much to be committed to conduct of elections and security, saying,  Nigerians should be more concern on the results of the elections and not the money spent.

Emphasizing that President Buhari can spend trillions of Naira on the 2019 general elections, the necessary thing should be that the money should be committed to what it was meant for.

“73 million registered voters in a country of over 180 million people like Nigeria that is giant of Africa, and N242 billion for the general elections in 2019. See, look at yourself, we are comfortable people, we are the giant of Africa, if the President want to use trillion of Naira for the elections, it is not too much, if the President is using billions for elections and security it is not too much, no amount is too much. ” he said.

According to him, “N242 billion is nothing, so long as the money spent on the elections will manifest.”

Sat Guru Maharaji stressed  that N242 billion being proposed by President Buhari  was not too much for the President to spend on INEC, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to organize free, fair and acceptable elections in a country of over 180 million people with about 73 million eligible voters.

“What we need to do, we need to ask the INEC to explain to us what they want to use the money for. We are taking about underage voting, they want to eradicate that, then the votes will count.”

He then urged Nigerians irrespective of their political or ethnic backgrounds to support the present administration of President Buhari and the INEC to ensure that votes count in the 2019 elections and acceptable by all and sundry, saying, the time has come for all Nigerians to work together as one entity noting that to keep Nigeria one I no doubt a task that must be done.

“This is what we need to do. All of us, all Nigerians, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Itsekiri, Ijaw, Fulani, all of us in Nigeria. We need to keep Nigeria as one. To keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done”.
