Just as counting of vote continues and announcements of results is being awaited, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police and other security agencies as well as the people of Ekiti state have been commended for a peaceful and orderly conduct during the governorship election.
This commendation was given in Ado Ekiti on Saturday by the Coalition for Peaceful Election (COPE) in a press statement signed by its spokesperson, Comrade Gbenga Soloki and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti.
It stressed that the election, though keenly contested, its peaceful conduct has shown maturity on the part of the parties unlike what obtained in the past.
According to the statement, the group emphasised that it is expected that the result will reflect the will of the people as expressed at the polls
According to COPE “from reports and observation we had during the election, kudos must be given to INEC for the near perfect performance, starting with the prompt distribution of none and sensitive materials and the conduct today. INEC has shown its readiness for next year general election. We must equally commend the security agencies for the maintenance of law and order before and during the election”
Continuing “the people of the Ekiti state deserves greater commendation for maintaining peace during the election, though few skirmishes were observed and reported due mainly to the desperation of party agents to cut corners, its germane that this spirit of brotherhood should be copied and embraced.
Furthermore, the group however advised INEC to immediately kick start the process for the Osun State gubernatorial election in order to perfect some of the challenges encountered in Ekiti State.
