Nigeria Football Supporters Club has appointed the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, His Royal Majesty Oba Dr. Adedotun Aremu Ggadebo as it’s national patron.
Presenting the certificate to him in his Palace, President General of the club, Dr. Rafiu OLadipo stated that the club chose that Alake because of his leadership qualities and love for sports.
“Members of the Supporters Club decided to appoint you as our patron because of your leadership qualities which has ensured peace in your domain since you ascended the throne of your forefathers.
“Our decision was also based on the fact that you are a sports living Oba and have been there for us
In his response, the Alake traced the history of his relationship with the club to Atlanta 96 World Cup when the Supporters Club rendered some inspiring songs like Oshe Oshe Baba and did not stop singing even in difficulties to show how patriotic they are.
The Oba while stating that no World Cup would be complete without the Supporters Club noted that the host country, Russia will witness surprises this time around because of the activities of the club
“The Supporters Club over the years have shown a lot of patriotism whenever the national team is playing and I know that Russia will not be different.
“My first contact with them was at Atlanta 96 when they rendered inspiring songs not minding the difficulties they were facing and I charge them to do the same in Russia”, the Oba admonished.
The Alake who later prayed for the club for a successful journey and good outing of the Super Eagles, charged them to always sing a popular Yoruba song; Akpadenden, Akpadenden, meaning each time you are confronting your opponent, they will be weak.
