Captain of Kaduna Golf Club (KGC), Colonel Ibrahim Biu (rtd) has lauded the Pinnacle Communications for bankrolling the KADINVEST Pro-Am Golf Tourney after 20 years if inactivity of professional competition on its course.
He expressed this during the oresentation of trophies and cash prizes to winners of the professional category on Friday at the club.
“It is a long waited tourney after 20 years since 1988 we have not hosted a professional tournament. We thank the sponsor for this,” he said.
Col. Biu praised the Chairman of Pinnacle Communications, Sir Lucky Omoluwa for thebseveral sacrifices made in ensuring the tournament was successful.
“You have left your business and been with us for days. We are grateful,” he said.
He congratulated the amateurs who played alongside the professionals.
“For the amateurs, we congratulate you, you played better than some professionals,” he added.
The captain also announced additional N50,000 to the winner of the tournament, Andrew Odoh, who earned N702,000 prize money and an additional N200,000 from the sponsor.
Director of the PGA in Nigeria, Samson Lawal said that the tournament is set to relaunch Kaduna as a home of golf in Nigeria.
“Kaduna State used to be home of golf, we believe it is getting set to reclaim its rightful place,” he said.
He described the KADINVEST Tournament as a big event, which had attracted the best golfers in Nigeria and other African countries.
“Its been a wonderful week of golfing in Kaduna. Kaduna Golf Club has began to confirm its position as top club in Nigeria,” he stressed.
He commended Sir Lucky Omoluwa fir sponsoring the tournament through his comoany Pinnacle Communications.
“To the sponsor, we are proud of you, we will forever remain grateful.
“To all other sponsors, we are grateful. You have helped in using the noble game of golf to transform Kaduna and Nigeria at large,” he concluded.
Over 40 professional golfers shared N5,200,000 in the Regular Tour, while the Senior Tour saw top 12 contenders share N1,300,000, making a total of N6.5m.
