Over 20 vehicles popularly known as Adamawa Sunshine owned by the Adamawa state government have been abandoned and rusting away due to lack of maintenance.
The General Manager, Adamawa Transport Company, Engineer Ahmed Umar Nyako who made this disclosure saturday while speaking to journalist maintained that the vehicles in question were bought by the previous government of Admiral Murtala Nyako 7 years ago.
According to him, since then, the company has been doing everything within its power to maintain the vehicles but their best is not nenough.
He said in November last year after complaining to Governor Mohammadu Umar Jibrilla about the situation of thing at the company, the governor then approved the sum of 15 million naira for them to carry out major repairs and service of their vehicles.
“It is almost a year now and the Commissioner of Finance has not yet release the said amount to the company, I contacted the Commissioner several times about the issue but he kept on saying there is no money”, he lamented.
The two times GM, stated further that the action of the Commissioner has seriously affected the day to day activities of the company, as they have only two operational government owned vehicles and over 20 parked vehicles in and outside the state.
“As am talking to you, we have only 2 operational vehicles which left foe Kano and Plateau state respectively this morning, we have 3 parked in Kano, 2 in Jos and over 20 here in Yola. When all my vehicles are parked how do you expect me to pay the salary and allowances of my staff”, Umar queried.
Umar therefore call on the Governor, Senator Mohammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow to look into the plight of the company and come to their rescue.
“As a firm believer in the developmental strides of Governor Bindow, I plead with him to facilitate the release of the said amount so as to ensure proper service delivery”, the GM stated
All efforts by New Nigerian to contact the Commissioner of Finance prove abortive.
