Oyo State chapter of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has advised Governor Abiola Ajimobi to resign if his administration cannot pay workers salaries in the state.
The state Acting Chairman of the union, Comrade Emelieze Andrew gave the advice while addressing a press conference on the salary arrears owed its members by Oyo State Government at the union’s secretariat in Ibadan.
He declared that TUC at its congress resolved a fresh five days ultimatum be given to the state government within which to pay all outstanding arrears of salaries owed its members “with interest”.
Comrade Andrew stressed that should the state government failed to pay all the owed salaries within the extra 5 days ultimatum, the people of the state should be ready for a mass action as from next Monday, August, 8.
“The Congress has met and we have decided as follows; that an extra 5 days ultimatum be given to the state government to pay all outstanding arrears with interest. That the governor should resign if he cannot pay workers salaries”, he said.
Speaking further, he lashed out at the Oyo state leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over an alleged unholy alliance with the signing of “a lactificious and satanic agreement that was inimical to industrial harmony in the state.
“You will recall that Oyo State government and the NLC entered into an unholy alliance by signing a lactiferous and satanic agreement that is inimical to industrial harmony in the state, agreement is illegal, illegitimate and unacceptable to the TUC.
The agreement is baseless and callous; we reject it in all its forms and entity. It is a product only good for the dust bin”.
