The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase to assist in finding a lasting solution to Herdsmen-Farmers clash in the state.
Dr. Mimiko who made the appeal when the IG paid him a courtesy visit in his office, said, the Police should try to extend the protection of lives and property to farmers and their farm settlements across the state.
According to him, his administration is ready to render any possible assistance that would make the efforts of the Police effective in that regard.
While responding, The IGP confirmed that the Police is ill equipped and would rely on communities for effective performance.
He however solicited for the cooperation of the state government in providing every enabling logistics that would help the Police in the state discharge their duties with little or no hindrance in whatever form.
Addressing a stakeholders meeting in Akure, IG Arase disclosed that over 300 children of Police Inspectors are now enjoying scholarship from Secondary School level to Tertiary Institutions.
He also disclosed the provision of Housing units for all Inspectors across the country, ”since the bulk of the work lies on shoulders of Inspector Cadres,” Arase said.
While reacting to the issue of recruiting Youths to provide adequate security for the teeming population, he said the Force will do all it could to ensure equal participation of notable Nigerians in providing the much needed safety of lives and properties, PCRC inclusive.
The Chairman, PCRC in the state, Christopher Falae, while commending the efforts of the IGP since he assumed office eight months ago, advised that the Police should look inwards on how to generate funds.
