The Director General of the Technical Aide Corps, Dr. Pius Osunyikanmi has chided the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led administration in the state for lacking integrity and credibility.
Addressing leaders and party supporters of All Progressive Congress (APC) while making his declaration for the party in Akure the state capital, Dr. Osunyikanmi also accused Mimiko of betrayal of past leaders from late Pa Adekunle Ajasin, late Chief Adebayo Adefarati and his immediate predecessor, late Dr. Olusegun Agagu whom he had served at one time or the other as Health Commissioner or Secretary to the State Government.
Osunyikanmi’s view was corroborated by the former Senator representing Ondo Central at the upper Chamber, Senator Ayo Akinyelure who added that the governor has betrayed the APC National leader, Bola Tinubu whom he said helped him ( Mimiko ) to get his mandate.
While calling on the people of the state to support the APC in the forthcoming governorship election, Osunyinkanmi exalted that the PDP was in disarray in the state following the alleged ineptitude of the governor.
“Many of us have left PDP because the party is not a progressive party and we have decided to join the progressives in APC, since Governor Mimiko has failed the people of this state,” he said.
He accused his former boss of mortgaging the future of the state by using public office for personal aggrandizement, saying: “Democracy in Ondo State is the government of Mimiko by the family of Mimiko and for the Mimikos.”
Senator Akinyelure, who lost the Central Senatorial seat to Chief Tayo Alasoadura in the April 28, 2015 election, appealed to the aborigines of the party to accept them into their party.
“We are here to support the APC, therefore you should not see us as outsiders, we left the PDP to join the progressives. Conservative is dead in Ondo State” the former lawmaker said.
Other defectors included former member of Ondo State Sports Commission, Monday Adamu, Former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Clement Olawale, Raheem Badmus and Cecilia Fayase.
Reacting to the development, the state Chairman of the PDP, Engr. Clement Faboyede said Osunyikanmi and other defectors were products of Mimiko, who got into limelight of politics through the auspices of the governor.
He expressed optimism that all the defectors will still come back to the PDP, saying “if they come, I will welcome them back. They have short period to spend with the APC.
According to him “I won’t say any other than say that they have no business in the APC, whatever they say about Mimiko is nothing, all of them are product of Mimiko. I will implore them to come back,” he said.
