A female lawyer, Yewande Oyeniran has been arraigned before an Oyo State Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan for allegedly stabbing her husband, Lowo Oyeniran, to death on February 2, 2016, at Akobo, area of Ibadan.
Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Durosaro-Tijani ordered that the accused Lawyer be remanded at Agodi Prisons till February 16 when the case is to be mention.
Arraigning the female Lawyer, the prosecuting Police officer, Inspector Amos Adewale in a one-count charge told the court that Yewande on February 2, 2016 “at about 06:10am at No 30 Abidi Odan Akobo area, Ibadan in the Ibadan Magisterial District, did unlawfully caused the death of one Oyelowo Oyediran, 38, by stabbing him with knife on the neck, which later resulted to his death.”
Inspector Adewale in the case marked: MI/1539/2016, stressed that the accused committed an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol II Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.
The accused person however pleaded not guilty to the one count charge.
Lead defence counsel, Barrister Seun Abimbola, urged the court to remand Yewande in Police custody because she was traumatised as a result of the incident adding that he would bring written application for the request to the court.
Refusing the request, Chief Magistrate Durosaro-Tijani declared that the court did not have jurisdiction to entertain such application based on the nature of the case.
She then ordered that the accused be remanded at Agodi Prison while the case be adjourned till February 16 for mention.
However, there was a mild drama at the court premises as the female Lawyer was tactically moved to the Agodi Prison from the court premises in a blue Primera Nissan car purportedly owned by a lawyer, while other accused persons meant to be remanded in Agodi Prisons were conveyed in a Black Maria.
