New Olubadan: 87 year old Adetunji to wait till after Odulana’s final interment

There are strong indications that the Olubadan of Ibadan in waiting High Chief Saliu Akanmu Adetunji may not be named as the new Olubadan until after the burial of Late Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade.
High Chief Adetunji who is presently the Balogun of Ibadan is expected to be named as the new Olubadan by the Olubadan-in-Council immediately after the late Oba Samuel Odugade’s body is buried.
New Nigerian gathered that this was in line with the Ibadan tradition which stipulates that the next Olubadan would be installed by the Oluwo of Ibadan from the Labosinde family at Oja-Oba shortly after the deceased monarch has been buried.
It was learnt that the Olubadan in waiting who is presently the Balogun of Ibadanland with his elevation few weeks ago can be installed any moment after the burial of Late Oba Odulana since there will be no rite to be performed before his ascension to the Olubadan throne.
High Chief Adetunji was promoted to the rank of Balogun Ibadan following the death of High Chief Omiyale from the Balogun line together with other 8 high chiefs about three weeks ago by the late Olubadan.
The 87year old High Chief Adetunji is the founder of three foremost music marketing companies known as Omo Aje Sound Studio, Adetunji Label and Baba Laje Records. Adetunji’s company markets Fuji maestro, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal’s music. The recently-elevated Adetunji became Mogaji (the head of the family) in 1976. He became Jagun Balogun (the first line on the Balogun rung) in 1978.
Already, the two-storey building residence of the Olubadan in waiting at Popoyemoja area of Ibadan has been besieged by hundreds of well wishers to congratulate him as well as to pay homage with canopies and chairs provided for the guests amidst standby musician entertaining the well wishers.
