5 die of Measles in Ibadan

No fewer than five persons have died of measles infection in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital as the state government ordered emergency immunisation of children across the state.
New Nigerian reliably gathered that the five victims were from Sabo area of Ibadan where fears of further death arising from measles have gripped some of the residents in the area.
It was learnt that the outbreak of measles in Sabo area of Ibadan forced the state government to move the commencement of a week-long statewide immunization of children across the state from January 28 to January 19.
According to sources at the state Ministry of Health, the change in the date was a sign of showing that the government is committed to safeguarding the lives of the citizens.
The sources hinted that the immunization exercise is expected to cover children from nine months to 59 months with 2.5 million children targeted for the vaccine.
