MSMSL to produce 300,000 single-phase meters in 2016

An Akwa Ibom State-based Metering Solutions Manufacturing Services Limited (MSMSL) said it would churn out not less than 300,000 units of single-phase electricity meters into the Nigerian market in 2016.
The factory which is designed as a high technology plant production is also expected to manufacture 100,000 units of meter box enclosures and 30,000 units of three-phase electricity meter per year.
With these feats, frequent scores between power distributing companies and electricity users in the country over inflated electricity bills arising from estimated billing system in place of automated card reader machines would soon be over.
Performing the ground breaking of the factory in Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State , Governor Udom Emmanuel described the exercise as an evidence of the unwavering pursuit to the industrialization agenda of his administration.
Noting that industrialization cannot thrive without constant power supply, Governor Emmanuel assured that the factory would create job opportunities for the youth to earn a living and tame the tide of begging to survive.
He explained that the state government has invested huge resources in the power sector in other to guarantee stable electricity supply in the state.
Commissioner for investment, commerce and industry, Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem said that the factory when completed would employ about 150 personnel in addition to 30 persons that would be sent on training in China on meter designing and engineering.
This is to ensure that the products from NSMSL meet quality standard and demand for both local and foreign markets on competitive basis.
Earlier the managing director of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Mr. Matthew Edevbie said that the factory would be the first of its kind in West Africa. According to him, experts from Beijing, China would form the bulk of the pioneer staff.
