The training took place at a two day retreat jointly organized by the State Assembly in collaboration with the Department of Administration, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in Abuja.
According to Honourable Nuhu Goro Shadalafya, a member representing Kagarko constituency, the retreat exposed the legislators to the working relationship among the three tiers of government; the executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary.
Shadalifiya also explained that they were taught certain duties and responsibilities of the legislators which are enshrined in the constitution. “We were taught certain details of our roles and responsibilities like the oversight functions and how we should carry it so that it will not be a vindictive kind of activity but an interaction for corrective accountability, direction and giving meaning to government activities and projects” he stressed.
Honourable Goro said the legislators were also trained on areas of budgeting, financing and projects implementation and were encouraged to see the executive, the Judiciary and the Legislature as partners in progress for the advancement of the state.
