Two cattle rustlers were Monday night killed and thirty two cattle recovered by the Kaduna State security outfit Operation Yaki patrol team in a joint operation with the Saminaka Divisional Police Patrol Team in Lere Local Government of the state.
The action followed a tip-off about the arrival of suspected cattle rustlers to Jama’ariya village in Lere local government area of the State with cattle suspected to have been stolen.
A statement by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Mr. Samuel Aruwan said “immediately, the security operatives raced to the village, the cattle rustlers engaged the team in a gun duel and as a result, two of the rustlers were killed while others rustlers escaped into the bush with gun wounds abandoning the cattle, one locally made Sub-machine Gun (SMG) rifle, three (3) pairs of army uniform and twelve (12) 9mm live ammunition.
“The cattle and the items recovered were handed over to the Saminaka Police Divisional Headquarters for further investigation to ascertain the true owners of the cattle for claims while effort is being intensified to track down the fleeing rustlers.“ The statement asserted.
The Monday night recovery of rustled animals is the second major breakthrough by the security agents following the donation of 107 Hilux patrol vehicles and 230 bullet proof jackets to the security agencies in the state by Governor El-rufai two weeks back.
