Kaduna SWAN Week begins, four events slated

The 2015 Kaduna Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Week kicked off on Tuesday with inter-media games for journalists across the 12 chapels that constitute the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council.
The inter-media games, which features table tennis, scrabble and
athletics (50m, 100m and sprint relay), runs between December 1 to 6, 2015, according to the Chairman of SWAN Kaduna State Chapter, Malam AbdulRaheem Aodu.
The Kaduna SWAN Chairman told sports reporters on Tuesday in Kaduna that the 2015 Kaduna SWAN Week will end on December 9, with the SWAN Seminar that is expected to be attended by top dignitaries in sports, politics and the media.
“The 2015 Kaduna SWAN Week kicked off on December 1 with inter-media games. Journalists from the 12 chapels under the Kaduna State Council of the NUJ; namely NTA, FRCN, DITV, Nagarta Radio, Correspondent Chapel, New Nigerian Newspapers, Liberty Radio, State Information, Federal Information, Kaduna State Media Corporation, Almizan and Freedom Radio have registered to participate in the week- long tournament.
“The journalists would compete in three sports; scrabble, table tennis to hold at the Kaduna state NUJ Secretariat and athletics (50m, 100m and short sprint relays) scheduled for the main bowl of Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna and the winners will be awarded with prizes, medals and trophies.
“The Kaduna SWAN Week will end with the SWAN Seminar slated for the 9th of December, 2015 at the Media Center of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium. Former FIFA and CAF executive committee member, Dr Amos Adamu is expected to serve as the chairman of the SWAN Seminar, while the Minister of Youth and Sports and Chairman National Sports Commission, Barrister Solomon Danlong will be the Special Guest of Honour.
“The Director General National Sports Commission, Alhaji Alhassan Yakmut will speak on the theme of the seminar, ‘Grassroots Sports as the Basis for Sports Development’, just as Kaduna State Commissioner of Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr. Daniel Dan’auta will speak on the topic ‘Promoting Sports for Sustainable Peace’.”
According to the Kaduna SWAN Chairman, they intend to make the 2015 SWAN Week one of the best in recent times.
