Chairman Nigeria Beach Volleyball, Engineer Musa Nimrod has appealed to veterans to contribute to the development of sports in the country through sponsorship and physical presence at tournaments.
Nimrod made the appeal while speaking to newsmen in Kaduna during the closing ceremony of the National Open Handball Tournament at the weekend.
He said that the Mega Handball Veterans who sponsored the tournament should be emulated by veterans of other sports in consolidating the efforts of government and the sports federation.
Nimrod who is also the Chairman of Kaduna State Volleyball Association explained that such sponsorship would lead to the discovery of new athletes from the grassroots.
“Government alone cannot funds sports. As such it is important for veterans to lend a helping hand. I am impressed by what the Handball Mega Veterans have done for the second year running,” he said.
On the performance of the Beach Volleyball teams that went to Morocco for the Rio Olympic qualifiers, he said that the female team qualified for the third round, but the male team failed to qualify.
