We are among the best in Nigeria – Imo health workers to Okorocha
By; VICTOR DURUAMAKU, Owerri
Following the ongoing battle between Imo state Government and its health workers, the health workers said they are among the best in the nation contrary to Governor Rocha Okorocha’s claim.
Governor Okorocha had alleged that the health workers were not doing well and as such, the government decided to concession all its general hospitals and other health institutions.
Speaking to journalists in Owerri, the state chairman, Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Comrade Nzenwata Francis Iheanacho, dismissed the governor’s allegation of non productivity against the health workers.
He explained that the function of the government owned health establishments was not to make money but to render essential services to the people. According to him, “Imo health workers are the best among others in the country”.
He however said that the governor was not following due process in the concessioning of the state government owned health institutions and establishments.
The Chairman said that the normal thing to do, if any government property is to be concessioned, is to give the workers one month notice, and within the period, all the entitlements of the workers would have been paid to them for the remaining numbers of years they have to put in service.
Also, he said the gratuity of the workers would be paid to them and they will put in the state pension scheme.
The chairman said, if the state government fails to follow this procedure, the concessioning exercise would be null and void.
