The National Sport Commission (NSC) may revert to 12 zonal offices in its bid to ensuring integrated discovery of athletes.
Director, Grassroots Sports Development, NSC, Dr. Ademola Are dropped the hint in an exclusive phone interview with the New Nigerian Sports from Kuru where he is attending the Policy Strategy and Leadership Course 20 at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPS), Jos Plateau State.
Are explained that the policy thrust of the NSC which is the development of grassroots sports would be given priority; a need that may force the commission to revert to 12 zones from the 6 currently being operated.
“We may revisit the number of zonal offices which used to be 12, so that more coverage will be felt at the grassroots. It would help to reach out quickly and the zonal coordinators will have fewer states to cover, making them more effective. The management will sit and look at it,” he emphasized.
It would be recalled that the NSC was operating 12 zonal offices, which saw each geo-political zone having two, before it was reduced to the current six.
