17 killed, 70 injured in Lagos- Ibadan expressway auto crash
By; Bayo Akamo, Ibadan.
No fewer than 17 people met their untimely death in an auto crash involving two Lagos bound vehicles, a J5 and an articulated lorry along Sepo end of the Lagos- Ibadan expressway in an auto crash .
It was learnt that during the auto crash, about 70 people sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to a private hospital in Ibadan.
According to the Oyo State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Yusuf Salami, the auto crash was as a result of over speeding and impatience on the part of both drivers.
Mr Salami stressed that the two vehicles, a Peugeot J5 with registration number XS 626 LSV and a DAF articulated vehicle with number plate AA 902 MML were reportedly struggling for right of way during which they lost control around Dominion University, Sepo.
“There were 96 people involved with 17 confirmed dead. It is obvious that both drivers were over speeding and suddenly lost control of the vehicles. The Peugeot bus was loaded with passengers and goods but the casualty figure rose because the other vehicle was traveling to Lagos with many illegal passengers.”
The FRSC Sector Commander added that corpses of the 17 people have been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital mortuary in Ibadan.
