It was sad wailing and crying yesterday as properties worth millions of naira were burnt into ashes at the fabrics section of the popular Dugbe market in Ibadan.
New Nigerian gathered that 15 shops were affected by the fire with 10 of the shops completely burnt with the fabrics inside the shops.
Sources at the market said the fire which started at 12 midnight from one of the shops quickly spread into other parts of the complex with few of those around the market and men of the Oyo State Fire Brigade Service making frantic efforts at preventing the fire from spreading to the other section of the market.
It was learnt that it took men of the Fire Service over an hour before they could put off the fire which sources said had gone wild before the arrival of the fire service men.
“When the fire service came with their big truck, they quickly started applying water from the truck from the entrance by the side of former Afribank building (now Skye bank). As they were applying water, it was as if they were applying fuel because of harmattan.”
As at the time of sending this report, the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained as the shops in the area were said not to have had electricity supply in the last few days.
