Reintroduce History, Yoruba in Pry, Sec, Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria – OPU

The Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) over the weekend advocated re-introduction of teaching of History and Yoruba language in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
OPU made the call in a communique issued at the end of its 3rd World Congress held at Atiba Hall in Oyo township made available to journalists in Ibadan specifically asked Federal Government to enforce such.
According to OPU in the communique,there was
also the need to ensure inclusion as option of History and Yoruba in tertiary institutions of learning,adding that the introduction of the two subjects will among order things promote the value, culture, norms and heritage of Yoruba race at all times.
“The Congress re-emphasis the re-introduction of History and Yoruba language in primary and secondary school curriculum and also inclusion as option of History and Yoruba in our tertiary institution”it said.
The union maintained further that after their visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi,it observed that “there should be opening of an enduring channel of communication between the top traditional rulers, who are the custodian of Yoruba culture and heritage and Oodua Progressive Union (OPU)”.
Emphasizing that the meeting which was attended by delegates from 77 countries agreed to establish Oodua House in all the OPU countries,it
added that “the Congress appreciated all members and delegates from 77 countries for coming home at the point in time of economic recession to honour Yoruba Race”.
“Part of the resolution at the end of the meeting was that every chapter of OPU shall be celebrating Black History Day in the month of February of every year. The Congress also tasks every OPU members to initiate programmes that are in tandem with the aims and objectives of the Congress  and be an ambassador of Yoruba Race, a culture that must reflect in their acts, deeds and views.
It then stated that the next world congress should be held in Abeokuta, Ogun State next year,adding,”the Congress unanimously agreed that the next OPU World Congress in the year 2018 will be held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
“The Congress agreed that His Royal Highness, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo (Alake of Egba Land) will be hosting the next OPU World Congress in the year 2018 in Abeokuta, Ogun State”.
