120th Anniversary: Babalola fumes over school’s conversion to Bakery

Eminent Lawyer and the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola has kicked against the conversion of his alma matter and first primary school in Ekiti State, Emmanuel Anglican Primary School, Ado-Ekiti to a bakery.
‪Babalola,who expressed dismay at the development recalled how the school had produced Lawyers, Doctors,Teachers and eminent personalities was now a bakery said “there cannot be greater insult than this,” hence the need to reverse the development.
‪The alumnus spoke in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital during the ground breaking of a new Emmanuel Anglican Primary School in conjunction with former pupils of the school as part of activities for the 120th anniversary of the primary school.
‪The ABUAD founder said “Today is a turning-point. Emmanuel School has risen. Today, we are laying the foundation stone for a new Emmanuel School. This is a tribute to those who brought the school here and testimonial to those who are coming behind us.
‪The building which used to be the school has been converted to a bakery while the school has been moved to another location in the state capital.
‪Babalola,who was a pupil in the school about 70 years ago, said the new school building would be modern while other school buildings in the place would be rehabilitated and the bakery re-converted to school.
‪He charged teachers to rededicate themselves as “you are making leaders of tomorrow”.
‪ABUAD Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Ajisafe,also an alumnus, described the school as a solid beginning and solid background for the products.
‪Ajisafe said: “The fact that this is the only school that Aare Afe Babalola attended in life and got several degrees from home confirms that it lays solid background for its products”.
‪Alumni members including Pa Ojo Aderibigbe, Pa Bolarinwa, Rev. Ola Oba and Seun Adetola lauded Babalola for his support to the dream of developing the school.
The Bishop of Ekiti Diocese,Anglican Communion, Bishop Christopher Omotunde, represented by Rev. Francis Bankole,praised Babalola for investing in Ekiti,investing in the lives of others and contribution for the development of the school.
‪Omotunde said: “Whoever forgets his source is an ingrate. We have thought of this school to have an Alumni that would come to give back to the school”.
‪The cleric charged the Alumni to keep the vision alive and contribute to the development of the school.
