About 1,128 accidents have been recorded between January to March 2022 within the Zone 1 of the Federal Road Safety Corps, with the record of 121 deaths.

The Unit Commander, FRSC Zaria Command, Abubakar Tata Murabus disclosed this to newsmen, while lamenting the consistent motor accidents along Kaduna-Zaria Highway.

Tata Murabus said, 536 persons also sustained various degrees of injuries.

He said the zone comprises of Kaduna, Katsina, Kano and Jigawa states, but Kaduna – Zaria – Kano are the areas most accidents occurred.

The Unit Commander sighted an example of how 10 persons died in a road accident at Tariyar Sarki along Zaria-Kaduna highway near Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Main Campus on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred when a Toyota Carina Wagon with registration number KTN 251 PG, lost control around Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria and somersaulted after hitting the median barrier.

The Unit Commander said that all the victims have been evacuated to the morgue and the driver by name Musa Iliyasu is the only survivor and he is receiving treatment at ABUTH Shika, Zaria.

He blamed the accident on overloading and over-speeding which is the cause of the accident and the five-seater car was said to be traveling from Kaduna to Bakori in Katsina State, loaded with 11 persons.

“This is why we warn drivers to desist from the habit of overloading passengers as they have drivers pocket and Hajiya’s parlour in their vehicles.

“You can imagine this car, which was meant to carry five people including the driver had instead carried eleven persons, and the driver was said to be over speeding despite the number of people in the car,” he said.
