Zaria LG Proposes Over N3bn For Grassroots Development



Zaria Local Government Council has proposed a budget of  N3,142,084,082,13k for the year 2019 tagged “Budget of Grassroots Development”.
Speaking at the stakeholders meeting held at the local government secretariat, the Council Chairman Engr. Aliyu Idris Ibrahim said the meeting is part of their campaign promises to run an open administration.
He said education, agriculture, roads construction, infrastructure and electrification will receive top priority in the budget.
Engr. Aliyu Idris Ibrahim also said the executive council will execute projects based on the peoples demands through their councillors who are representing them.
In his remarks, Dr. Mustapha Jumare said Zaria Local Government Area has taken a lead for other local governments to emulate not only in Kaduna State but in the country as a whole.
Jumare said this open government is the first ever in Kaduna State and advised the executive to maintain the system.
According to him, in the whole world only 20 countries are practicing open government at local government levels Nigeria are among with Zaria Local Government in Kaduna State as a pilot.
In their contributions, the civil societies present called for all inclusiveness in supervising projects execution in the area.
Also the chairman Zaria Local Government Blinds Association, Dalhatu Ashafa appealed to the chairman to include people with disabilities into committees to give their contribution.
Also in his remarks, the District Head of Birni Barrister Sambo Shehu Idris appealed to the chairman to consider Village wards ( Masu Anguwa ) with allowances becouse of their role in serving the humanity.
The stakeholders meeting had in attendance, the traditional rulers, political parties, NGOs and religious leaders.
