The Chairman, Child Development Grant Programme (CDGP), Steering Committee Zamfara State, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Gayari has disclosed that a Draft Policy for Social Protection Programme has been prepared for submission for the state assembly to institutionalise Social Protection Programme in the state.
Gayari who is also the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, made the disclosure at the maiden Roundtable Meeting with Civil Society Organizations, Media and Academia on the way forward for Social Protection Implementation in Zamfara state.
He said the Draft Policy if passed into law by the state lawmakers will enhance Social Protection Programme and make it a sustainable Programme through the legal backing.
Gayari lamented that due to lack of define social protection policy, the people in state have being missing various opportunities from international donor agencies and other stakeholders
The Behavior Change and Advocacy Officer, Save the Children International (SCI), Alhaji Nura Mohammed called for concerted efforts by all to ensure that those vulnerable to poverty are assisted and comforted.
Mohammed added that the meeting is meant to scale up and set the stage for a strong and common voice in ensuring that Social Protection is institutionalised in the state.
He charged the participants to ensure the articulation of strong action points to be used in realizing the set objectives.
The Chairman, State Social Protection Platform a Zamfara based NGO, Alhaji Nasiru Biyabiki said more that 300,000 people mostly women have benefited from social intervention Programme of the state government in the last 7 years.
Biyabiki said the Draft Policy will go a long way in providing succour to the down trodden in the state, if proper head count of the vulnerable and poor people are carried out.
Participants lamented the surge of Girl Almajiris and Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) children in the state describing such as very dangerous to the peace and stability of the state.
The participants called for the inclusion of women and children who lost their bread winners to banditry.
The CDGP isa sponsored project of the Save the Children International (SCI) in Zamfara State.
