The new Zamfara State Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Sanda Danjari Kotorkoshi has appealed to journalists to be objective in the discharge of their reportage to ensure national unity and development.
The Commissioner gave the charge while interacting with members of the Correspondents Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council who paid him courtesy visit in his office at the JB Yakubu State Secretariat, Gusau.
He described journalists as the eyes and ears of the people therefore the need for journalists to give top priority to the interest of the people as anything short of that is capable of bringing distrust.
“Journalists are the bridge between the government and the people and whatever comes from the media is believed to be the truth, so you must strive to be objective in your reportage of events in order to build sustainable peace and progress in the country,” he said.
Danjari lamented the under reporting of the development strides going on in the State, and therefore solicits the support of the Correspondents to assist in reporting government events in the State.
“I am directing with immediate effect, members of the Correspondents must be invited to all government events to enable them report accordingly ” he said.
Earlier the chairman, Correspondents Chapel, Alhaji Maiharaji Altine Salah said the Correspondents are not enemies of the government but are duty bound to report without sentiments.
“We work with Information but you in the government hide Information, so don’t blame us for not reporting government events, ” he said.
