Youths of Bayan Dutse and Narayi in Kaduna have called on the state government to speedily implement laws that will stop the use of codeine in the area.
This is coming on the heels  of the federal government’s pronouncement that pharmaceutical companies should stop the manufacturing of the prescription drug because of its addiction especially by youths and women.
Speaking with the New Nigerian, youth leader of Bayan Dutse, Mr. Ada Emmanuel, said it was high time serious legislation was put in place because youths in the area are gradually dying as a result of the addiction.
“Our young lads are dying before their time and there are shops in this neighborhood still selling the drug, we’ve reported the police and nothing has been done because they collect gratification from the chemist owners”.
On his part a father whose son is an addict urged the government to come to the rescue of the area, according to him, ” our daughters and wives are now addicts, something should be done urgently “.
It would be recalled that the federal government recently banned the manufacturing of the drug by a pharmaceutical company because of its addition.
