The 21 Ibadan new Obas on Thursday vowed that nobody can stop  them from wearing the crowns as  they had appealed against the January 11, 2018 judgment which nullified the review of the Ibadan Chieftancy Law and their installation.

Addressing newsmen at the Oja’ba Palace in Ibadan where 16 of the Obas converged, the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland,  Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, declared  that the Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi  Ladoja was inconsistent with the law because “there was no declaration that we should not wear our crowns.”

” We have appealed the judgment. I wore my crown to Kano and no policeman can arrest me because of that. The status quo remains since we have appealed the judgment. What Ladoja is in court over is mere ruse. The Olubadan of Ibadanland is our father. Ladoja is only fighting a war of vendetta.” he said.

The Osi Balogun of Ibadanland addded ” on December 5, 2005, Ladoja made a publication in the Tribune newspaper where he had appointed 47 Obas in Ibadanland. It was signed by Chief Ayodele Adigun on December 23, 2005. The fact that he was unable to carry it out but Governor Ajimobi was able to do it is what is paining him. Ajimobi meant well. We have been crowned and nobody can change that”.

Speaking at the press conference, the Ekarun Olubadan, Oba Amidu Ajibade Salaudeen declared  “we have been crowned and nobody can remove it. Why didn’t Ladoja implement what he had published? No governor has ever done so much as Ajimobi. Governor Jemibewon crowned Oba Adebimpe just as Ajimobi has done to us. Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Imperial Majesty, Olubadan of Ibadanland.is our father and.we appreciate that., but whoever wants to destroy the peace of Ibadanland will not succeed. We appeal to Ladoja to please cooperate with our Governor for peace to reign”, he said.

The Balogun Olubadan Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, in his comment noted  that “since we have gone to Appeal Court, the status quo remains and so nobody can restrain u from wearing our crowns”, he said.

The Head of the Olubadan-in-Council, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Baogun while speaking asked High Chief Ladoja to “let bye gone be bye gone, and allow peace to reign”.

It will be recalled that Justice Olajumoke Aiki’s while nullifying the appointment of the new Obas by Governor Ajimobi in her  judgment declared that “Sections 10,12 and 25 of the Oyo State Chiefs Law do not empower the governor to set up the committee. The Governor cannot delegate power on what he does not possess. Wearing of beaded crown is outside Sections 10, 12 and 25 of the Oyo State Chiefs Law. The procedures of part 2 and 3 of the Oyo State Chiefs Law under Sections 10,12 and 25 do not empower the governor to set up any commission of inquiry to review the 1957 Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration.

The judge added in her ruling that ” alll powers, be it legislative or judicial, must be traced to the validity of the constitution. The governor of Oyo State exercised his power outside the power conferred on him by the chiefs law and I declare the exercise as unconstitutional and illegal,’’

The Ibadan new  Obas were installed on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the ancient Mapo Hall, but one of the High Chiefs, (who declined being crowned), Senator Rasidi Ladoja recently accused some of the Obas of flouting the order of Justice Olajumoke Aiki as one of them wore the crown to Kano, venue of the wedding ceremony between Governor Ajimobi’s son and the Kano Governorr’s daughter. Ladoja had threatened to report the development to the court.
