Workers Of Tertiary Institutions In Oyo State Suspend Strike

It was jubilation galore on Tuesday as workers in the six tertiary institutions owned by Oyo state government announced suspension of  their two- month old strike.

New Nigerian reliably gathered that the decision to sispend strike was arrived at during a meeting between leaders of the striking unions and the team of the governing councils of the six affected institutions.

Sources close to the meetings said during the parley,most of the grey areas on the non payment of months of salaries, payment of full salaries and reduction of the subventions to the institutions among other issues were addressed by representatives of the unions in the six institutions and the Oyo state government officials.

Confirming the suspension of the strike,  NASU Chairman, The Polytechnic Ibadan chapter, Comrade Ibrahim Adekunle Akande said  during the strike, , the affected  unions in the institution had lost about ten (10) workers due to the hardship they suffered while the strike lasted..

It will be recalled that the workers embarked on the strike on Friday 3rd November 2017, when leaders of the various  academic and non-academic staff in the six institutions declared a full blown indefinite strike action to press home their demands including non payment of their salaries ranging from 9 to 15 months.

The six institutions owned by the Oyo state government are,  The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo; Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology; The Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa; The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki and College of Education, Lanlate.
